Since none doesn't have a singularity/plurality, you use the other word (students/wheat) tio determine the is/are

Interesting. It certainly follows that is would be correct because you'd use is in the "not one" and "no one" constructions. -- nm

You'd say "we are perfect" though. Also, I'd say "Not one of the students is affected" but "None of the students are affected"
