You know the absolute worst part of the housing market? All the shit you need to do to a house so you don't offend a buyer.

"You should paint your front door. People don't like wood-grain anymore."
"You should paint your maple cabinets white. No one likes maple anymore."
"You should paint your woodwork. White's the way to go."
"That dishwasher? It should be white."
"Those built ins? White."
"Carpet should be neutral."
"Walls should be neutral."
I'm already replacing the roof and refinishing the wood floors. The paint is a no-brainer. As is the carpet.
But, really, I am NOT going to remodel a house I'm moving out of to meet the lowest common denominator buyer.
If you don't like blonde cabinets and woodwork buy someone else's house. I'm sick of dropping money on a house that's already depreciated $50,000 in the 6 years since we bought it thanks to the shit market.

do not paint over wood ... that's just wrong - let them do it to suit themselves -- nm

that always bugs me on the house hunting shows when they complain about the existing wall colors, as if that's actually a factor in buying a home.
