I was arguing for the side of asking/demanding the seller to make changes.

yes, most people would be willing to do the painting, replace carpeting, etc in the future if they can get a lower cost on the house and therefore a slightly lower mortgage payment.
but some people will want that stuff included in the price of the house, and therefore will pay for the redecorating over the life of their mortgage (which is stupid, imo, but I was required to do similar stuff for both houses I sold).
If people get approved for a 100k mortgage, and can get all the work they want done in the house, and buy it for 100k, they feel like they are accomplishing something I guess.
