I thought the same thing as you, that it wasn't really "blind" the way they did it, and that Jeff and Jordan were so far behind it wasn't likely to matter. I thought hitting the cowboys would have been way smarter. Or, possibly, just leaving it for the next team so they wouldn't piss anyone off. But it worked out perfectly, apparently.
