There's certainly interesting parallels to be drawn there.

It was the fashion of the time to give Shakespeare's tragedies happy endings. You could say the same about Disney today.
(fwiw, for the opera's London premiere a year later, he rewrote the ending to have H die, which is more or less the version they're doing at the Met)
