sideways view is the world that the MIB can bring about once he is off the island. He can literally twist time itself to a point when the island is gone (underwater) but Ben and his father were once on it but 815 never crashed.

But this timeline must be so far back that it altered the lives of the characters in other ways. Jin and Sun are not married, Locke is married, Jack has a son and was married etc.
