wow, this does not lend itself to a short reply and there is a lot of stuff. but in short, I do NOT think you are a bad person at all.

a bad person would just not care, I think.
Seems to me you are on the right track when you say this isn't her. Terminal illness changes some people fundamentally.
the driving thing is really scary and I hope someone else here can give you some practical advice.
