My advice is simply remove your mother from the equation when job-hunting. Just find the best job in the most appealing location. If it's close, then

at least you'll have two really, really good things going on in your life -- Kelly and your job! :-) -- and that'll help you deal with all the family problems. If it's far away, well, so be it. You deserve to do the best you can for yourself and Kelly right now.
