This may give them an edge, but Showbiz Sandbox is beating the drum of 3D backlash. Plus, there's only so many 3D screens.

Studios are jostling for position on those 3D screens and the slots are filling up quick. If RE doesn't take off out of the gate, it won't last in theaters.
