I get what you're saying, but that is sort of my criticism as to its longer term upside.

It's much more of a niche product. And because of that you have to have a product that can do everything the ipad can do (a laptop) in addition to the ipad. If your needs fit enough into that niche, great. But I think for many the limitations of it will cause people to slowly realize they're using their laptop much more because they need its versatility. Yes, you can sit in front of your tv with it and play, but if you want to do a couple of other things too, then you have to go get your laptop. Or if you want to run a couple of apps simultaneously you need your laptop and I could see the ipad slowly become a paperweight for a lot of people. Take it out and play with it from time to time, but not nearly as useful as people thought it would be when they got it.
