The long term viability is one reason I'm waiting. It could be that the apps + iPhone OS 4 turn it into an amazing platform

or it could be like you say. I think the former is more likely (multitasking, etc. etc.) and the laptop will continue to be the go to device for long term work requiring a computer, but the iPad (or others like it) will start to be the devices we pick up for quick usage in and around our daily lives.
