Roland is the easiest to start out with, since he can deploy basically a backup soldier which can be upgraded to heal you. Brick is the hardest to play. the other two are in the middle of difficulty, though the siren can phasewalk and run away form danger.

dont buy guns at the stores, its never worth it. also try to use a healing shield. transfusion grenades are always a good option as they heal you.

Dying only costs you money (15% of your total cash or something like that). saving is automatic for the most part. Its always best to stockpile cash (for deaths) by picking up every gun/shield/etc you can and selling them.

Dont overthink the weapons. Break them down into a few categories you will look at such as: Damage, accurary, fire rate, and special abilities. Always open every chest you find.
