well, to some degree yes. at first when you can carry only two weapons

try to get one close (shotgun is probably the best) and one mid to long (sniper or a scoped smg or rifle).
avoid the rocket launcher at first, cause it can damage you.
later, its always good to carry a mix of guns around, but dont carry to many. if you can carry 3 guns, carry 2 or 3 backsup of different type, so you can always swtich if you run out of bullets. but dont carry around 20 guns, then you cannot really gain cash as easily.
