work gripe : what do you do in this situation?

So I heard from several co workers yesterday, that a fairly new person in the collections dept (just a normal rep, not even a manager or anything) went on a 10 minute diatribe yesterday about me. I have not spoken to this person for more than 2 minutes in the last 3 months. He said some shit like :

"how the hell did he get that job, he is not very bright."

"they had better be paying him in gum, because even that is overpaying him"

"he is the worst IT person I have ever seen"

"I need to know what kind of qualifications that dope had to get in the position"

Now, if some asswipe said this to me in the street, I would be leaving him laying in the gutter with his mouth on the curb....

It is retarded that I am as pissed off about this as I am.
