If I were in your shoes, I would like to know how he came to that opinion of me, and why he chose to share it so vehemently.

It's egregious enough that it could be viewed as a potential threat to your employer's opinion of you, and thus to your employment.
That aggression cannot stand, dude.
Spawn's suggestion might feel right, but it also represents and extreme amount of potential self-harm to your continued employment, so it's not the right way to go.
I don't know what the right way to go is, but something tells me it might involve being obsequious.
