This is a completely DIFFERENT timeline, so things can happen differently. Daniel is now Eloise and Charles' son, Jack has a son, Desmond has a career under Whidmore and they are great friends, Sun and Jin aren't married, the Asian guy's son is alive, Ben is a teacher, etc etc

While I completely agree that it is very trite, I think it should come together in the end. Eloise seems to know EXACTLY what is going on and hinted so when she said desmond was in violation, etc. They must have made some deal/pact that only Desmond can now alter... My guess is he will have to merge the 2 somehow, but to what consequence i have no idea
