That's always been there, but it's not shown because it doesn't make for good tv.
The part I keep coming back to is Russell and Parvati first cementing their alliance. They had a conversation along the lines of:
Parvati: I don't ride coat-tails
Russell: You'll ride these coat-tails baby
Parvati: *lets him think that*
