even though it did it nightly, i have a very specific memory of my mom coming up to go to bed and i was still up reading this ....

it was really late.
i always read my mom's King books when she was done (it started with The Stand when i was probably too young. she didn't love that i read that, but afterwards she figured if that didn't keep me up, it was cool.)
Anyway, when she realized what i was reading, she didn't turn off my light. She let me keep going because she understood how hard it was to put down.
