It's so subjective. The Departed has evolved far beyond The Godfather films but they're also unmistakably derivative of it.

We've watched The Godfather 1 and 2 over the past year and I kept thinking "this is no different from an average Sopranos episode".

Right. Not to mention lesser-quality acting. Nicholson's character and his arc were a major negative on that. -- nm
