While well intentioned, it seems to me that anti-gay marriage people would use it as positive reinforement.

as in, "See, you gays can call my marriage what you want, and it doesn't bother me."
It really is different when you're a minority. Being discriminated against *is* what is wrong. So just by not acknowledgeing the majority of marriages, it doesn't marginalize the married, and it doesn't really "hurt" the way discrimination does.
