I'd much rather see a form of the Larry Bird Exemption in baseball though

if you either drafted the player or had them as their MLB rookie organization, you can spend over the cap to keep them. If you're over the cap though, you can't sign outside organization talent unless you lose someone of greater value.

Let's face it; if you're good enough to draft and develop players, you shouldn't be penalized for being good in that regard. It's the thing I don't like about the NFL cap and soon to be the NHL cap.
