Interesting (to us) nature story from the weekend. Shortly after our sighting of the gopher snake one of our group saw a rattler....

He came back to camp telling us that he thought it might have been giving birth, due to a 'long white thing' extending from it's tail area.

We checked the snake ID book and saw that this was mating (rather than birthing) season.

Yup, he and another of our group went back to check and there were two snakes entangled under the bush. Guess rattlers have a 'long white' penis :)

Actually they have two - or one that's forked - but that's not important right now :)
