unless they're negative nellies/trolls, I think most people are likely to give a thumb's up to something if there's anything remotely redeeming.
the 5 star system (which had decent descriptions for each star) was a better gauge of feedback, and thus pay-worthiness for that aspect of things to me.
someone whose videos I occasionally watch had the stars thingie turned off because she usually brought mixed ratings that way. she's turned-on the binary way - that's telling to me. (the new system does show the number of ups/downs - so far, it's always been quite low on the downs, and she's still her. ;) -)
