In response to "Late night discussion: Should a patient who screwed up his/her liver by excessive drinking be give a new liver via transplant? " by James Bond (aka Igor)

This has been in the news here recently

A lady who had a liver transplant and screwed it up with herpin was denied a place on the list, but then given a $250,000 loan to fly to Singapore for a live liver transplant. She died shortly after the operation.

I wouldn't have a problem with her being on the list, but people on their first transplant should always take precedence, which given the organ shortage effectively means you'll never get a second transplant.
