I'm not asking you to defend the Bloc. I'm asking you to defend Quebeckers.

I'll be honest, I am a westerner who previously defended "reaching out" to Quebec in the hopes of solving national unity problems. I supported solving the "fiscal imbalance" even though I knew there was no such thing. I supported recognition of "Quebec as a nation" even though I don't think it's right to do such a thing for any group in Canada.
Hell, I even grit my teeth when it comes to Canadian government support for abestos mining and Bombardier subsidies because everyone knows those are "Quebec only" issues predominatly.
And I supported these things because I was optimistic that there was finally a chance to get Quebeckers onboard with the idea of being Canadians.
I'm starting to realize that Ottawa can do whatever they want, but most Quebeckers are never going to recognize themselves as anything but Quebeckers and I start to wonder why any party should bend over backwards trying to appease Quebec (as Ottawa does whenever there is an announcement that Quebec will get to run a seperate program instead of other national programs...the most recent being the national securities regulator.)
So I'm just looking for someone to give me hope that I haven't been a big dupe all these years when I've fought with members of my party and friends and family on the side of Quebec demands.
Can you give me any hope that Quebeckers are going to come onboard with the idea of being Canadian before Quebeckers when something benefits Canada as a whole?
Because right now, I don't believe they will. The Bloc is a glorified lobby party. That they continue to receive votes from the majority of Quebeckers offends me as someone who's been yelled at for defending them.
