So, I had basically no money in my account but I needed gas in my truck so I can make it to work tomorrow. It was on E. I call the automated phone system to see exactly how much I have available to put in my tank, and it tells me that I have quite a bit in there. Turns out my direct deposit went through early and it is all available to me right now. So I go to the station and fill up my tank, and then check my account online when I get home. I notice that the 'date of transaction' is today for the gas purchase, but tomorrow for the deposit.
I call PNC to ask a rep about this. She tells me that I will be hit with an overdraft fee tomorrow, because the deposit is not available yet. I tell her yes, it is available, every penny of it, according to their system. She tells me that even if the money is available now, the gas purchase will go through first and will 'technically' overdraw my account.
Ya know, if I do something stupid and overdraw my account, I completely understand why I would be whacked with an overdraft fee. Makes sense. But I really don't think it should apply in this case. If the deposit date is tomorrow, then the money should not have been available now. I was making a transaction based on the information I was given by their system.
