of course, the subsidy came hand in hand with removing other avenues of donation.

and whether you think it's a good idea in principle or not, removing it now and in this manner is pure political opportunism.
It's really a drop in the bucket all things considered (which I know you can say about a lot of things, and then they add up, but still)
