what i wondered about was how many of those guys were proud of their trophy wives, bragged about their real estate holdings, had their own expensive hobbies, etc.? i.e., enjoyed all the trappings themselves and didn't prepare for possible downtimes, and it seems didn't address who their wives really were.

they played a role in their own lives and the lifestyles of their wives that they funded. when things turned bad, there were consequences to face from what they had at least enabled to be created.
