harmless. then as time goes on, some people negin interpreting the mandate more and more fundamentally, or strictly, in order to "complete" the mandate, or correct it from it's flawed state.
You don't have to be terribly brilliant to see how easily *crediting God with the protection of the State* could easily slip into the soldiers of God (a phrase very commonly used by Christians to describe themselves) being responsible for the protection of the State.
And of course the State would need protection from all things "Almighty God" found abhorrent. which easily slips to a fundamentalist religious government.
You don't need to be a left wing whack job to see how right wing whack jobs couls bring that about.
