I read up on him at Wiki--he actually died the first day at Iwo Jima, but not before he sneaked sround an embankment and took out a Japanese machine gun nest all by himself. Then he guided that tank out of the mud and saved countless people. IMO he should have gotten a second Medal of Honor, but he was awarded the Navy Cross (highest Naval award) instead. You should read it, he had a fascinating life.
