No you don't. Manitoba banned corporate and union donations in 2000 and didn't bring in a subsidy. (That only got added this year and it sounds...

As for the timing/justification, that's a valid argument because it's a naked attempt to hurt the opposition.
But on the actual issue itself - public financing - I'm starting to swing the other way. Canadians could easily fund their parties of choice, but they don't want to. I'm curious as to why.
