when did shopping for a new computer get difficult?

I remember it being so easy to figure out how much power you had because the names of the part told you. (i.e. pentium 4 3.00 GHz)
now it's dual processor with the name of the company.
my least favorite is the graphics cards. I have no idea how good they are by the current names. I feel so lost.
end of rant
Responses:
Are you gaming? If not, you don't care about the graphics card.

yea, the reason I ned the upgrade is because the newer games are too much for my 5+ year old pc to handle

don't feel bad, I'm pretty much lost in today's hardware market too. My next comp will probably be a mac. -- nm
