I feel a little bad for Blumenthal.


I can understand how over the course of decades and thousands of speeches, how something can gradually go from being emphasized to exaggerated to misstated. I could give him the benefit of the doubt that there was never a moment where he consciously decided to lie about serving *in* Vietnam. And the (repeated) instances where he "misspoke" probably don't directly reflect on his competence as attorney general or congressman or whatever.

But there are a few areas in which absolute clarity is required, and your status as a war veteran is something you cannot get sloppy with and expect to slide by.
