In response to "question: If you're on bypass, doesn't blood still go to your brain? -- nm" by Beryllium

The surgeon explained it to me like they'll start the bypass as usual, but it catches the blood after it goes through the heart and blooks it from

going into the carotid and brain. He said once everything is in place, they start it and try to get in and get out in 2 1/2 minutes. Then restart the blook to the brain, prep the other side, and lather, rince, and repeat.
