actually from what I read...Jack jumps around in time in his lifetime, when he first arrived on the island, in the present and when he's an old man...

and he has to stop time from being destroyed as as an anti-time wave from the future travels into the past destroying eveything in it's path and Jack has to learn how to think in 4 dimension terms....
