He didn't say "new" so I wasn't sure what he was seeing.

But the publishers are to blame for paper copies being cheaper than e-copies. They are desperate not to lose their power to retailers.

Publishers are a gatekeeper that is on its way out in its present form. They are increasingly irrelevant. Anything they can do to forestall that while they grope around for a reason to exist, they'll do. Right now that includes making e-books unattractive to buyers through high prices.

They'll eventually lose once writers realize the only value they bring is as that of an editor/proofreader. Their publishing skills aren't needed anymore.
