They said they knew the opening scene and the end scene. Therefore, they knew from the beginning this was happening in the instant Jack died.
If when the Bob Newhart Show was around with the internet, and someone had said in the beginning 'this is all a dream,' and they answered, 'you're right,' who's going to watch the show?
