Becuase they *want* to from a show that offered them a plain ending.

when you consider what they went through to create this opening scene; the plane and such was an absurd undertaking for a tv show. That final scene of the wreckage is a huge deal to waht they accomplished, but we want more becuase it just can't be a tag-card of what they accomplished.
