I don't think Jack would have been able to just stop loving his son even if he knew it wasn't real. It would have ben gut wrenching, imo.

Having dealt with my wife not being able to get over a "not real" relationship with someone she never met, I can't imagine a father being able to let go that easily of a son whom he had physical contact with for 11 years.
