I think Lucas is a great comparison for Lost, though.

They faced the same difficulty of something growing so much broader in scope than they ever could have imagined due to the unexpected, relatively random popularity of the projects. It's the same thing that happened with Gone with the Wind once upon a time and is happening with Twilight now. Once something explodes, a content creator can collapse under the weight of their own success. Unlike Lucas, Lost at least found a way to keep its chin up at the end.
