I wonder if the Somalialand or Puntland parts would be easier/safer

like, do you *have* to go Mogadishu? That crosses a couple of my "safe" lines (though granted, so would a few of the other countries he's been to).
That might open up the quasi-country can o worms, though, and have you head to places like Transdneister and Ngorno-Karabak.
