don't tease us with puzzles and numbers and freeze framed clues and whatnot for six years and then bail on it in the last season. it's what got people interested in the first place.

I don't buy the "it was all about the characters and nothing else mattered" crap. other than ben, desmond and locke, they were mostly boring and unlikable from the start.

and the producers promised us after the first season that it wasn't purgatory. granted, the island life wasn't, but they still found a way to sneak it in long after the idea was digested and discarded.
