In response to "for diggie and TWuG and others who weren't satisfied with the ending: I respect your position. There were many loose ends." by loosilu

Kim crystallized it for me earlier today. (Lost and Sopranos finale spoilers)

All of the outcry about the Sopranos ending involved what happened in the next sentence, the next few moments.

Lost would have needed another 5 hours solely comprised of exposition to get to the fireworks factory.

When you think about it in those terms, it's comical that Sopranos generated such an outcry while Lost has proven satisfactory to most. The key is how much viewers expect closure on the main points rather than on the secondary ones. Sopranos only left one element up for debate but that was one too many for a lot of viewers. Lost left hundreds on the table, but they tied up the ones that people feel mattered the most.

What makes BSG brilliant is that they found a way to do both in that final season.
