How a NJ Turnpike reststop spoiled The Pacific for me. (Uh, spoils)

My wife and I were 2 eps into the show before we traveled to NY for Easter. We stopped at a Turnpike rest stop and in between two buildings (the main food area and a Hershey's ice cream shop that was closed) was a placard commemorating John Basilone who died in combat.

This placard was in such an odd area and if I were 5 more feet away from it I would have been none the wiser.

With a little research I know now that Basilone is honored in many ways in the Raritan, NJ area. An annual parade even.

My wife and I finished the series last night. Good but brutal.
