Honestly I can't believe it took them 5 weeks to come up with the idea of cramming a bunch of junk and cement in the hole.

When they punched a hole in the bottom of the Chicago river the filled it with mattresses. I realize this is thousands of feet deeper, but filling in the hole was my first thought.
