TV Questions: Is anyone watching the new episodes of Dr Who and is familar with the orginal series (pre 1996)?.....

I am only into the 2nd year with David Tennant of the new series but I had an interesting observation and I was wondering if anyone else had noticed it.
The new Doctors and the stories seem to be much more emotional than I remember. Not to say that the old Doctors did not have some compassion or emotion to them, but Eccleston and Tennant are playing them much more connected to not only his companions but also to the other characters in each series...or at least thats my thought. Am I just remembering the old Doctors differently or is this a change due to brining it up to date?
Any thoughts are welcome.
