can anyone help me ID what medical TV series this is from?

in a particular episode, two patients needed a particular organ transplant. there was only going to be one organ available. it was fairly clear to the doctors and the patients involved that whichever patient didn't get the transplant would die.

the transplant was done, but through a tragic circumstance, the recipient died. the patient who didn't get the transplant somewhat miraculously recovered and lived.

this was completely perplexing to the doctor involved (the main character of the series).

i know that this *wasn't* the scrubs episode where all of the patients that received organ transplants from a certain donor died. it wasn't from scrubs at all - the show was a drama.
