Food industry's defense of salt sounds a bit like tobacco companies' defense of smoking.

Several years ago I was told my blood pressure was too high and as a first line of defense I should lower my intake of salt. I began reading labels whenever I went food shopping. I was shocked at the salt content of the food I was eating. I haven't had Chef Boyardee in years, nor most canned soups. I've noticed recently some companies are lowering salt content, most notably Oscar Mayer. Even chip makers have lowered salt content or have lower-salt versions. It's a bit of work but I can find a lot of low(er) salt foods that actually taste good. Some do cost more. I'm not sure I understand why. Now I'm also checking carbs & I'm eating a lot of Lean Cuisine. It's taken a while to get used to eating differently (aka not as lazily) but my improved health over time has been worth it.
And I hate that Alton is shilling for a company trying to stop us from getting healthier. (I know that's overstating it but appearances are everything.)
