In response to "Hey Subby, I just checked out the birth pictures - a few questions for ya... :)" by kelly

Answers, as best as I can.

1. We never visited a doctor during this pregnancy. We saw the midwives monthly during the early part of the pregancy, did 1 ultrasound at 18 weeks, then the frequency escalates to biweekly, then weekly as you get further along. Melynda did consult a breastfeeding doctor during the pregancy, but only because she wanted to do everything in her power to make sure nursing was successful. There are things which can be done in advance to help increase the milk supply. Midwives aren't an option for all women, only women with 'low risk' pregancies.

2. She feels SO much better. She had her baby surrounded by her Mom, Sister, Sister-in-law, and me, along with 2 midwives. In under two hours from when Zoe was born, she was tucked in *in her own bed* with her baby cradled and breastfeeding. In the hospital, we couldn't get a private room, so I had to go home to sleep, and we had been through 36 hours of hell, so everyone else took off to sleep. Plus, because it's a hospital only the father and the grandparents are allowed in. Her sisters couldn't visit, nor could any other friends or family. Hell, we had birthday cake and sang happy birthday to Zoe last night! Try doing that in a hospital.

Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask or fire me an e-mail.
