The ST World Cup 2010 game On June 11th, the 2010 FIFA World Cup Football/Soccer Championships kicks off in South Africa. This is the first time the tournament is being hosted in Africa and also the first time in the southern hemisphere outside of South America. While a fun thing to follow, it's always more fun when you can brag how much better you are at picking winners that your friends ... and now, you can join a game that will help you prove it. Soccer knowledge might help you but I've run this where someone came in second by picking countries she had traveled to. How To Play: 1. The participating countries have been divided into three groups (see below) based on the odds offered by various bookies around the world. 2. Pick 1 Favourite, 1 Outsider, and 1 No-Hoper to make up your team. 3. For each win (either in regular time, extra time, or penalty kicks), by your teams, you receive 3 points. For each game that ends in a tie (during the initial group stage), you will receive 1 point. For losses you are awarded 0 points. 4. If two or more participants have the same number of points at the end of the tournament, a tie-breaker will be used. As part of your entry, pick a number for the total goals you think will be scored during the entire tournament. This includes goals scored during regulation and extra time, but does not include penalty shoot-outs after extra time. Closest guess (above or below) will be the winner. If the tied participants' guesses are equally close to the total then the prize will be shared equally. 5. The results of the third place game do count toward the overall standings, and goals scored in it count toward the tie-breaker, if needed. 6. Go to the "survey" page at this link, http://interviewtest.tns-global.com/wix/p814836261.aspx. 7. Complete the "survey" with your name, email address, selected countries (3), and tie-breaker guess. The countries within each group will appear in random order. 8. Games begin on Friday June 11th, the final is played on Sunday July 11th. 9. Please submit your picks by 10:00 pm Friday June 11th. GROUPINGS: Favourites: (pick 1) Argentina Brazil England France Germany Holland Italy Portugal Spain Outsiders: (Pick 1) Cameroon Chile Ghana Ivory Coast Mexico Paraguay Serbia Uruguay USA No-Hopers: (Pick 1) Algeria Australia Denmark Greece Honduras Japan Korea DPR (North) Korea Republic (South) New Zealand Nigeria S. Africa Slovakia Slovenia Switzerland While in alphabetical order here, the countries will appear in random order on-screen to help reduce any bias. If you are stuck on which ones to choose then why just pick the first or last ones that show for you.
